People Counting for Universities & Campuses
Universities run libraries, teaching blocks, study spaces, canteens, sports centres and open campus walkways, and each has its own daily and term-time peaks. V-Count measures how many people enter and leave each building, how full study and social spaces are through the day, and how people move between zones, so estates, library and student-services teams can plan space, staffing and opening hours from measured activity instead of estimates.
Nano sensors count anonymously on the device, with up to 99% accuracy at entrances, and BoostBI brings every building and campus into one reporting platform.

What to measure on a campus
- Building entries and exits: visits by hour, day and term week for libraries, teaching blocks, student unions and sports facilities.
- Live occupancy: entries minus exits for reading rooms, study spaces and canteens, provided every entrance to the space is covered.
- Zone use and dwell: which study areas, social spaces and service points are used, and for how long.
- Queues: waiting at service desks, enrolment points and canteen tills, where the queue licence is selected.
- Outdoor flows: footfall at main campus gates and on walkways between buildings.
Agree your definitions before rollout: whether a visit is an entry or an entry plus exit, how staff are treated, and which periods you will compare, such as teaching weeks, exam periods and vacations.
Which V-Count sensor fits each campus space
Nano AI for building entrances
Nano AI uses 3D active stereo vision with on-device AI to count people in both directions with up to 99% accuracy. It mounts between 2.2 m and 7 m, and built-in IR LEDs let it count in total darkness, which suits 24-hour libraries and out-of-hours doors.
One unit normally covers a standard double-door entrance; wider entrances use units side by side. It runs on 5 V USB-C power, with an optional PoE splitter, and connects over Wi-Fi.
Staff exclusion by lanyard, shoulder tag or mobile app is available with the selected licence.
Nano Prime for study zones and wide areas
Nano Prime measures zone visits, heatmaps, dwell and visitor flow across wider indoor areas such as open study floors, atriums and canteens. Its published coverage reference is 120 m² at a 4.5 m mounting height; final coverage depends on the ceiling, layout and obstructions, so each zone should be validated.
Nano Outdoor for campus entrances
Nano Outdoor counts outdoor entrances and walkways in an IP65 weather-resistant housing, operates from −25 °C to +60 °C and keeps counting after dark, with up to 99% bidirectional accuracy.
To plan a deployment, send V-Count your floor plans and photos of each entrance and space. You receive placement advice within 24 hours.
Reports in BoostBI
BoostBI is V-Count’s cloud analytics platform, with a web interface, a mobile app and 19 dashboard languages. Teams can compare buildings and campuses, view visits by hour and day, follow occupancy and zone dwell, and receive automated reports matched to their role. Reporting typically refreshes every 10 minutes, or as often as every minute when real-time updating is enabled.
Counts can reach space-management tools, building systems or a data warehouse through a scoped custom REST API project. V-Count provides REST API documentation and confirms the version, authentication, fields, data direction and schedule with your IT team.
Privacy for students and staff
Nano sensors process frames inside the device and send only anonymous count events and analytics to BoostBI. No faces, images or video are stored or uploaded, and no student or member of staff is identified or followed between buildings. V-Count is ISO 27001 certified. Technical features alone do not establish regulatory compliance, so your data protection officer should review the data flows, retention, access permissions and integrations for the deployment.
Pricing basics
Pricing is per sensor. Nano hardware is indicatively US$299–799 per sensor as a one-time purchase, and BoostBI is US$9–49 per sensor per month, depending on the features and volume selected.
Staff exclusion, demographics, queues, heatmaps and API access are separately selectable. A lifetime hardware warranty is available with the eligible VIP subscription option. Many institutions start with one library or building before a campus rollout.

University and campus people counting FAQ
How accurate is people counting in a university library?
Nano AI counts entries and exits at library doors with up to 99% accuracy, and students arriving together in groups are counted as individuals. Results depend on mounting height, coverage and traffic density, so validate each entrance against a manual reference count before reporting library visits to the university or external bodies.
Can we see live occupancy of study spaces?
Yes, when every entrance to the space is covered. BoostBI shows occupancy as entries minus exits, typically refreshing every 10 minutes, or as often as every minute with real-time updating enabled. Nano Prime adds zone visits, heatmaps and dwell for open study floors, so you can see which areas are busiest.
Do the sensors identify students or staff?
No. Nano sensors process frames on the device and send only anonymous counts to BoostBI. No faces, images or video are stored or uploaded, and counts are not linked to student cards or names. V-Count is ISO 27001 certified; your data protection officer should still review data flows, retention and access.
Can campus counts feed our space-management or building systems?
Yes, through a scoped custom REST API project. V-Count provides REST API documentation and confirms the version, authentication, fields, mapping, data direction and schedule. API access is a selectable BoostBI sublicence, so include it in your quote if counts need to reach space-management, building or data-warehouse systems.
How many sensors does a campus need, and what does it cost?
It depends on entrances and spaces: one Nano AI usually covers a standard double door, Nano Prime covers wider zones and Nano Outdoor covers outdoor gates. Hardware is indicatively US$299–799 per sensor one-time, with BoostBI at US$9–49 per sensor per month. Send floor plans and photos for placement advice within 24 hours.
