People Counting for Pet Shops

Pet retail attracts browsers who come to look at animals and leave without buying, and sales data cannot see them.

Pet shops carry unusually high browse-to-buy ratios because livestock displays draw visitors with no purchase intent, and grooming or veterinary services bring traffic that never touches the retail till. V-Count counts entries and measures dwell by zone so operators can separate genuine retail conversion from footfall that was never going to convert.

What pet retail operators measure with V-Count

  • True retail conversion — POS transactions against measured entries, giving conversion that accounts for browse-only traffic.
  • Livestock display dwell — Dwell at aquarium and small-animal displays, quantifying the draw and its conversion contribution.
  • Aisle and category heatmaps — Zone dwell across food, accessories and toys to guide planogram and promotional placement.
  • Grooming and service demand — Traffic to grooming and service desks, separated from retail footfall for accurate staffing.
  • Weekend and daypart patterns — Footfall by hour and weekday so cover matches the family-visit peaks.
  • Promotion effectiveness — Footfall and conversion before, during and after promotions to measure real uplift.

How V-Count measures pet shops

Every V-Count deployment pairs an on-sensor AI counter with the BoostBI cloud platform. The sensor does the counting and discards the image; BoostBI turns the counts into occupancy, dwell, capture rate and zone heatmaps you can act on.

  • Nano AI — the flagship 3D active stereo vision sensor, up to 99% accuracy regardless of lighting, shadow or crowding. Counts bidirectionally and excludes staff.
  • Nano Prime — wide-area indoor sensor for single-entrance sites, 98% accuracy in typical lighting.
  • Nano Outdoor — IP65 rated for open-air installation, rated from −30°C to +60°C.
  • BoostBI — dashboards, benchmarking across sites, scheduled reports, real-time threshold alerts, plus an open REST API and webhooks for POS, CRM, BI and BMS integration.

Privacy by design

V-Count sensors process 3D depth data on the device itself. No facial features are captured, no identifiable image is stored, and nothing personal is transmitted — only anonymous counts. V-Count is ISO 27001 certified and the architecture is GDPR compliant by design, which matters in a family retail environment with frequent child visitors.

Installation and rollout

Each sensor mounts overhead on a single PoE cable and self-calibrates. A typical unit is installed in about 20 minutes with no need to close the space. Certified partners handle installation across 130+ countries.

Why operators choose V-Count

  • Trusted by 600+ companies across 130+ countries

Frequently asked questions

Can it separate browsers from buyers?

It measures total entries; dividing POS transactions by that figure gives true conversion. Zone dwell then shows where non-converting visitors spend their time.

Will fish tank lighting and reflections confuse it?

No. Depth sensing measures physical distance, so aquarium glass, reflections and coloured display lighting are not counted as people.

Does it count children?

Yes. All individuals are counted regardless of height, which matters in a store where children are a large share of visitors.

Can we exclude staff and groomers?

Yes. Staff exclusion via wearable Bluetooth tags keeps staff out of customer counts.

Can we measure grooming appointments separately?

Yes. A sensor at the grooming or service threshold gives that area its own traffic figures, independent of retail footfall.

Will it integrate with our EPOS?

Yes. BoostBI connects to POS via REST API and webhooks and exports to standard retail BI tools.
