People Counting for Offices
Badge data tells you who tapped in. It does not tell you how many people were actually in the building.
Hybrid working has broken the assumptions behind every office lease. Badge-in records overstate attendance because they miss tailgating and never record leaving, while desk-booking tools only capture intent. V-Count counts people at the door and by floor, giving workplace and portfolio teams a defensible occupancy baseline for lease decisions, cleaning contracts and HVAC scheduling.
What workplace and real-estate teams measure with V-Count
- True building occupancy — Live headcount per building and floor, independent of badge or booking systems.
- Peak-day attendance — Day-of-week patterns that show which days actually justify full catering, reception and cleaning cover.
- Floor and zone utilisation — Dwell and footfall per zone so under-used floors can be consolidated or sublet with evidence.
- Meeting and collaboration space demand — Entries and dwell for meeting suites and breakout areas, separating booked-but-empty from genuinely used.
- Lease and portfolio right-sizing — Long-run occupancy trends per site to support renewal, consolidation or expansion cases.
- HVAC and energy scheduling — Occupancy feeds to the BMS via API so heating, cooling and lighting follow real presence.
How V-Count measures offices
Every V-Count deployment pairs an on-sensor AI counter with the BoostBI cloud platform. The sensor does the counting and discards the image; BoostBI turns the counts into occupancy, dwell, capture rate and zone heatmaps you can act on.
- Nano AI — the flagship 3D active stereo vision sensor, up to 99% accuracy regardless of lighting, shadow or crowding. Counts bidirectionally and excludes staff.
- Nano Prime — wide-area indoor sensor for single-entrance sites, 98% accuracy in typical lighting.
- Nano Outdoor — IP65 rated for open-air installation, rated from −30°C to +60°C.
- BoostBI — dashboards, benchmarking across sites, scheduled reports, real-time threshold alerts, plus an open REST API and webhooks for POS, CRM, BI and BMS integration.
Privacy by design
V-Count sensors process 3D depth data on the device itself. No facial features are captured, no identifiable image is stored, and nothing personal is transmitted — only anonymous counts. V-Count is ISO 27001 certified and the architecture is GDPR compliant by design, which matters in a workplace, where monitoring individual employees would be both a works-council problem and a GDPR risk.
Installation and rollout
Each sensor mounts overhead on a single PoE cable and self-calibrates. A typical unit is installed in about 20 minutes with no need to close the space. Certified partners handle installation across 130+ countries.
Why operators choose V-Count
- Trusted by 600+ companies across 130+ countries
- Over 25 billion people counted to date
- ISO 27001 certified, privacy-first architecture

Frequently asked questions
Does this monitor individual employees?
No. The sensor captures anonymous 3D depth data only and stores no identifiable image. It produces counts of people, never records of individuals, which is what makes it acceptable to works councils.
How is this better than badge data?
Badge systems miss tailgating, rarely log exits, and cannot see internal movement. V-Count counts every person bidirectionally at each monitored threshold, so you get true occupancy rather than access events.
Can we exclude cleaners and contractors?
Yes. Staff exclusion uses wearable Bluetooth tags, so recurring non-employee traffic can be kept out of headcount figures.
Can occupancy drive our building management system?
Yes. BoostBI exposes live occupancy over a REST API and webhooks, so HVAC, lighting and access platforms can consume it directly.
Will it work across a multi-floor, multi-site portfolio?
Yes. BoostBI benchmarks every floor and every building side by side and flags consistently under-used space.
What about lobbies with revolving doors and turnstiles?
Overhead 3D sensing handles revolving doors, turnstiles and wide atrium entrances, counting each person in both directions.
